If you're subletting your apartment this summer, protect yourself from scams. Mainly, watch out for overpayment fake checks scams, where you are given more money than you are asking for and are told to wire money to someone else in return. If you cash this type of check, you are responsible for the lost funds. Remember, there is no legitimate reason for someone to send you a check and ask you to wire money in return. If you have encountered a subletting scam, call our Fraud Prevention Department at 800-533-6773. Learn more about subletting scams »
