College Cooking Survival Guide

College life has its upsides, like the independence of living away from home and a more flexible class schedule than high school. However, one thing that you may miss is the convenience of having your parents cook for you. You might find yourself cooking every night for the first time of your life.

Dorm Room and Apartment Cooking Checklist

Stock your dorm room or apartment up with these essentials and you’ll be making meals that remind you of home in no time.

  1. Large wooden spoon.
This is a basic for any kitchen and can be used for anything from breaking up ground beef to stirring sauces.
  2. Strainer.
Essential for college cooking and is used for draining water for macaroni and cheese and pastas.
  3. Microwavable bowl.
You will most likely use your microwave a lot when preparing meals, and it is important to have a bowl that is microwave-safe.
  4. Measuring cups.
Almost all recipes call for measured ingredients, and these can be found for very cheap.
  5. Set of plastic plates and cups.
Many students use paper plates; however, buying a set of plastic utensils will save money in the long run.
