Fraudulent Scholarship Scam
In this telephone scam, the caller claims to represent Great Lakes Higher Education
Corporation or one of their affiliates. The student is asked to provide their mailing
address, phone number, and bank account information "so scholarship funds can be
expedited." This is similar to a scam that occurred several months ago in which
the solicitor claimed to represent the U.S. Department of Education.
UW Credit Union reminds members never to provide personal or account information
to solicitors. For more fraud protection information, please see our
October 2004 newsletter or contact a UW Credit Union representative.
