Making Home Affordable Program

The Making Home Affordable Program is part of President Obama's comprehensive strategy to help the housing market get back on track.

The plan has two parts aimed directly at American families:

  • Refinancing for homeowners who are current on their loans, but have not been able to refinance due to declining home values.
  • Modifications for homeowners who may have already fallen behind on their loan payment, or are close to falling behind.

What is a Home Affordable Refinance?

Many homeowners today are unable to take advantage of lower interest rates because the value of their home has decreased. If you are current on your mortgage and your loan is owned or guaranteed by Fannie Mae, you may be eligible to refinance through the Home Affordable Refinance Program.

  • To find out if your loan is owned or guaranteed by Fannie Mae, please complete the Fannie Mae online tool.
  • If you've determined that you're eligible and would like to apply, please complete our online application to begin the process.
  • If you have an existing UW Credit Union mortgage and are facing financial difficulties, please contact our Mortgage Loan Servicing Team at 1-866-912-4871.
