Wiscard UW Credit Union Program Makes Life on UW-Madison Campus Easier

The Wiscard UW Credit Union Program is now available. This new program makes it possible for any of the nearly 76,000 Wiscard holders to begin using their UW-Madison campus card at any ATM or business that accepts PIN-based debit transactions.

“The Wiscard UW Credit Union Program links a cardholder’s Wiscard to his or her UW Credit Union checking account,” said David Mickelson, UW Credit Union Director of Retail Delivery Operations. “This optional feature can be added to any Wiscard. It gives Wiscard users the ability to use their Wiscard at ATMs to make withdrawals, deposits or balance inquiries in addition to allowing cardholders to perform PIN-based debit transactions at businesses. Users can also monitor their UW Credit Union accounts using our online banking system.”

To activate this Wiscard program, cardholders can visit any UW Credit Union branch or the Wiscard Office in the Memorial Union. It takes less than five minutes to add this functionality to the Wiscard. The cardholder simply chooses a PIN, and their current card immediately becomes functional. There is no fee for linking a Wiscard to a UW Credit Union Checking account, no annual fee and unlimited free ATM transactions.

“We are dedicated to providing a convenient banking experience for students and giving them the building blocks for success,” said UW Credit Union President and CEO Paul Kundert. “This new program is an advancement toward providing members with outstanding service and smart convenience.”

UW Credit Union will also provide students with financial services and education that help them manage money easily and responsibly. The new Wiscard service follows a competitive bid process in which UW-Madison selected UW Credit Union to provide the debit card service. In addition, UW Credit Union will provide on-campus financial education, 18 surcharge-free ATMs on campus and a full-service branch at the new south campus Union.

“The majority of incoming UW-Madison students choose us as their financial partner because we are committed to looking out for their best interests. Most stay with us after graduation because we’ve treated them fairly.” Kundert added.
