Apply for a Variable Rate Private Student Loan

Before you start an application, you will need the following:

Identification and Contact Information—Your Social Security number, driver's license number, permanent and school addresses, phone numbers and email address.
Employment Information—Your annual salary and employer's name, address and phone number.
Cosigner's Information—You will need to provide all the information listed above for your cosigner. You cannot submit your application for consideration/review unless both your information and your cosigner's information is complete.
Contact Information for Nearest Adult Relative—Name, address and phone number. Note: Relative cannot live at same address as you or your cosigner, or be the cosigner.

Note: You will need to create a new user name and password to start the process on the next page after you choose "Start My Application." Since this information is needed for your Private Student Loan only, your Web Branch user name and password will not work.

Membership is required for student loan borrowers. If you're not already a member, you will be asked to complete our membership process after you apply for your student loan.*

Do I need a cosigner?

A cosigner may be necessary, for example:

If you have less than 2 years of credit history; or
If your annual income is less than $10,000 or your income is insufficient to support payments

Can I apply if I don't have a Social Security number?

Both the student and the cosigner must have a Social Security number to apply.

Is membership required for the cosigner?

No, membership is not required for cosigners. Only the primary borrower must be a member of UW Credit Union.

Who is Cology?

Cology is a business partner that processes our Private Student Loan program for us. When you submit an application, mail in documentation, or call with questions, you will be working directly with Cology. You can reach Cology at 877-490-6634.

* Students attending any UW system school, Madison College or Edgewood College are eligible for Private Student Loans at UW Credit Union. Membership is required when taking a loan out with us. If you are not currently a member of UW Credit Union, we will contact you to establish membership. Establishing membership is easy and includes opening a membership savings account. If you do not complete the membership application, we will create your membership savings account for you.
