Apply for a Private Student Loan

The following information is needed for both the student and the cosigner.

  1. Identification and contact information—Your Social Security number and driver's license number
  2. Employment information—Your annual salary and employer's name, address and phone number
  3. Contact information for nearest adult relative—Name, address and phone number; relative must not live at same address
  4. Apply for membership—Membership is required for student loan members. You will be asked to complete our membership process after you apply for your student loan.*

Note: If you haven't applied for a Private Student Loan since February 2010, you will need to create a new user name and password to start the process on the next page after you choose "Start My Application." Since this information is needed for your Private Student Loan only, your Web Branch user name and password will not work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a cosigner?

A cosigner may be necessary, for example:

  • If you have less than 2 years of credit history; or
  • If your annual income is less than $10,000

Can I apply if I don't have a Social Security number?

Both the student and the cosigner must have a Social Security number to apply.

Who is Cology?

Cology is a business partner that processes our Private Loan program for us. When you submit an application, mail in documentation, or call with questions, you will be working directly with Cology.

* Students attending any UW system school, MATC or Edgewood College are eligible for membership at UW Credit Union. Membership is required when taking a loan out with us. If you are not currently a member of UW Credit Union, we will contact you to establish membership. Establishing membership is easy and includes opening a membership savings account. If you do not complete the membership application, we will create your membership savings account for you.
