Making Milwaukee a Banking Icon
Photographer Nate Vomhof is a proud member and Hoan Bridge debit card carrier.
My new favorite thing about being a UW Credit Union member is having a photo I took of the Hoan Bridge on a debit card, but I’ve also always appreciated the accessibility and online banking capabilities.
Growing up in Deforest, I was familiar with UW Credit Union. My family encouraged me to apply for student loans with the credit union when I needed them. I remember going to the branch in the student union at UW-Milwaukee to get everything figured out. I went there a number of times as a student.
As I continued my education at Midwestern University in the Chicago area, I kept UW Credit Union as my primary financial institution. Living in a completely different metro area and not having to move my assets was really nice. I was always able to accomplish everything I needed in the digital space.
Even though I’m back in Milwaukee, I still use online banking almost exclusively. UW Credit Union makes it so easy!
But it is nice to go into the branches occasionally because the transformation they’ve had over the years is great. They are beautiful spaces. Plus, it’s really nice to ask the branch staff questions and get their support. They are really knowledgeable and can help you consider different options.
I recently paid off my car loan through UW Credit Union and will definitely use them when I am ready to buy a house. I’ve already started the conversation with a financial specialist.
It’s really exciting to have my photo featured on UW Credit Union’s latest debit card design.
I've always liked taking photos. I bought a Nikon DSLR camera during my last pharmacy school rotation, which was on the Navajo Reservation. I wanted to capture the beauty of the American Southwest.
When I moved back to Milwaukee, I started experimenting with a drone. My golden retriever, Brutus, loves to watch me fly the drone around, so usually he's by my side when I'm out capturing the city. It’s been neat to watch the skyline change over time.
Suddenly people were asking if they could buy my photos, telling me they had never seen Milwaukee like that. And that’s how my side business took off.
When I visited the Bayview branch to get my new instant-issue Hoan Bridge debit card the day after they became available, the branch staff were excited to tell me they had made 82 Hoan Bridge cards that first day. It’s nice to see that pride in Milwaukee shining through.
