Madison, WI – Nov. 13, 2024 – UW Credit Union has been named a 2024 Green Master and given additional recognition as a Top Performer by the Wisconsin Sustainable Business Council.

The announcement was made on Nov. 13 at the WSBC’s annual conference in Milwaukee.

Green Master status signifies that an organization has identified and is effectively managing its material sustainability issues and performance related to those issues, takes a comprehensive approach to sustainability and actively leading the transformation to a more sustainable society.

“Ingrained in the credit union difference is giving back to the communities we serve, and that includes doing what’s best for our planet,” said Brad McClain, Chief Financial Officer. McClain also oversees all UWCU construction projects. “Taking time to source and implement sustainable solutions is a worthy investment that will have positive benefits for generations to come.”

These investments, highlight in UWCU’s application to the Green Master program, include:

  • Reducing its carbon footprint through geothermal heating and cooling, LED lighting, occupancy sensors and more.
  • Offering comprehensive digital banking services, saving time and materials while also minimizing vehicle pollution.
  • Prioritizing regional and recycled materials in building projects.
  • Managing water use through on-demand heaters, low-flow and waterless plumbing, and special runoff and irrigation systems designed to reduce off-site impact to regional waterways and lakes.
