Katie R. Wolf

1905-1964

Manager/CEO & Director

Katie Wolf was the first full-time manager of UW Credit Union.

Considering the organization's modest size in those early years, historic job naming conventions and there being few other managerial positions at the credit union during her career, Wolf’s title of “manager” would be the chief executive role in present day standards.

Wolf led the organization from 1939 until her death in 1964. She was a pioneer in the credit union movement, serving as president of the Madison chapter of credit unions and helping found the Wisconsin Credit Union League.

Wolf epitomized member service. She was known to take money to members who were ill at home, wire her own funds to a faculty member stranded without cash in California on a Sunday (before ATMs existed) and go the extra mile to meet any member’s needs.

She was also an early advocate of financial counseling and assistance to women who were widowed or wished to go into business.

Katie Wolf was a true credit union champion.
