MADISON, WI. - Jan. 31, 2019 - UW Credit Union has contributed a total of $200,000 to their Chancellor’s Scholarship Endowment Fund to bridge financial gaps for deserving students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The contribution supports the larger University of Wisconsin-Madison Mercile J. Lee Scholars Program, which assists high-achieving students from minority and culturally disadvantaged backgrounds who might not otherwise have the financial means to continue their education. Students receive a financial award to cover tuition, fees and book expenses, as well as leadership development and mentorship opportunities.

“We’re honored to create another way to help students further their education at the University of Wisconsin,” says Paul Kundert, President and CEO of UW Credit Union. “Our endowment fund continues our decade-long tradition of awarding scholarships annually to deserving students, helping them reach their potential through the world-class instruction and academic excellence that the University of Wisconsin offers. It’s rewarding to see students’ achievements and know that we were instrumental in helping them attain their academic goals.”

UW Credit Union established their endowment fund with a $125,000 contribution and then supplemented an additional $75,000, bringing the total to $200,000 in just one year. Contributions of this level ensure scholarships in perpetuity, meaning generations of students will receive needed financial support.

Vice Chancellor for University Relations Charles Hoslet says, “This generous endowment by UW Credit Union directly supports students and helps them reach their educational goals. We are thrilled that UW Credit Union continues to value education in our community and demonstrates that value through action. Our partnerships with local businesses such as UW Credit Union are invaluable to our work and our ability to help all students achieve their educational goals.”

The endowment fund builds on UW Credit Union’s ongoing charitable giving to support access to higher education. In total, UW Credit Union has contributed more than $1.7 million to scholarship funds to the University of Wisconsin since 2008, benefiting 225 students.
